Missing white woman of the week: Chandra Levy redux
I hadn’t realized the whole “missing white woman of the week” media-filler thing had been going on this long, but if I recall it had already began going strong in 2001.
Calousness aside, it was a sad thing - like all the other missing white women of the week since, she was a beautiful young person, and her loss was indeed a tragedy.
Why the Levy case earned so much attention is a lot more easy to explain with the connection to the philandering congressman, but so many of the cases since seem to have no rhyme or reason as to how they float to the top. Who knows how many women are victimized every week, but the ones that end up occupying dozens of hours a day on the networks and cable news all seem to be white and good looking.
Anyway - there’s a better post on the Levy thing at the link below.
