This is one of the things that has made the possibility of liberal success in this election a little easier to take.

The Democrats will be solidly in control in Washington. The silver lining is that for the first time in quite a few years, they will not be able to duck responsibility. As soon as they actually begin governing in January, they will, inevitably, begin to alienate voters. Obama in particular will not remain a tabula rasa, all things to all people, much longer. Whether he turns out to be the hard leftist of his legislative years or the borderline Republican that he sometimes seemed on the campaign trail, he will disappoint some of his followers. And the next time a hurricane strikes, it will be the Democrats’ fault.

I got to wondering today - is there anyone in Barack Obama’s orbit that he doesn’t have to make excuses for? Biden, as everyone knows by now, pulled another gaffe this week (he told the truth again) and embarrassed the Obama campaign and sent the handlers banging their heads together to figure out how to spin it. “We’ll call Biden’s statement ‘political flourishes.’”

Biden said Obama winning the election would trigger a international crisis within 6 months. Palin pointed out another worry the Obama camp has:

“But I guess the looming crisis that most worries the Obama campaign right now is Joe Biden’s next speaking engagement. Let’s call that crisis scenario number five.”

Bolton, and most everyone else who has a clue is calling Biden’s observations in this case spot-on.

“The risk of an untried president is not only that he wouldn’t respond adequately, but I think there is the risk of an excessive reaction,” said Bolton. “The desire to prove, as Sen. Biden said, that Senator Obama has steel in his spine, proving how tough you are, can sometimes lead to an overreaction which would be as, or more dangerous, for the United States than what an under-reaction would be. I am grateful to Senator Biden for bringing it up for us.”

I’m a big fan of John McWhorter. He is easily one of the most astute observers of our social climate today. He makes a startlingly good point in his recent column On The Content of His Character .

In the increasingly unlikely event that Barack Obama does not become president, Martin Luther King’s dream would reveal itself as tragically unrealized 40 years after his death. Not, however, because whites were standing in that dream’s way, but because of the black people standing alongside them.

Yes, black people. I find myself unable to trust that more than a sliver of black America would be able, if Obama lost, to assess that outcome according to–of all things–the content of his character.

For 40 years, black America has been misled by a claim that we can only be our best with the total eclipse of racist bias.

In my own opinion, whatever the outcome, Obama’s candidacy or presidency will only aggravate racial tensions being nurtured by liberals.

This woman spends twelve hours driving this kid to Nebraska so she can abandon him, then has the onions to ask for him back. “No madam, and we’ll take the others off your hands too.”

A Michigan couple were barred from seeing or contacting their children after authorities said the mother abandoned their adopted but unwanted 13-year-old son in Nebraska under the state’s safe haven law.

If Joe the (unlicensed, divorced, gasp Christian) plumber is going to undergo the kind of media and moonbat scrutiny the candidates do (reporters haven’t been this busy digging through trash cans since they got back from Alaska) shouldn’t he maybe have a secret service detail too?

Everyone loves Obama so much, maybe he can lend Joe one of his.
